Islev Church

In Islev Church, the dark atmosphere of the interior and the beauty of the dimly lit space are celebrated, inspired by Romanesque churches.
This is evident, for example, in the restrained curvature of the apse arch and the delicate light behind the altar. The large, non-directional ceiling structure supporting the roof emphasises the room’s unique character.
The entrance to the space is through a ‘forest’ of curved steel columns supporting the organ gallery.
The bell chamber and bell openings in the tower are shaped like brick-built, upward-facing trumpets, which soften the sound before it reaches the ear.
A water feature comprising Corten steel basins has been installed in the church square.
